October 25th, 2026 at 23:25

Video Poker is a beloved game that is able to be enjoyed in casinos all over the world, or in your house on your PC, using a web account. The regulations are very simple and involve the player trying to achieve the best combination of cards as you can in order to win money. In this respect it is much the same as a classic game of poker, without the involvement with any other players. Of course, tactics used in a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Video Poker starts when the enthusiast puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or cash) into the video poker machine and pushes the play button. A 5 card hand will be electronically ‘handed out’ on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker game also has hold buttons, and gamblers should now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the player would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.

After the enthusiast has chosen which cards she wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be handed out. The hand is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands printed on the pay out schedule.

Normally, the minimum succeeding hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It is obvious that the pay out schedule can change from machine to machine, so that experienced gamblers are able to select the most beneficial game each instance.

As soon as the first round has finished, the player can either decide to continue on in an attempt to increase their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that they may have won. Further, several versions of the game allow the enthusiast a chance to double their wins, in which situation another round is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying elements to increase playability.
